Summer Intensives
Students will train with Master Artists from Broadway to major ballet companies and universities in courses including ballet, pointe, partnering, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, West African, choreography, nutrition, resumes, and auditioning. These sessions broaden students’ horizons as they learn from experienced performers with diverse and extensive professional backgrounds. Current New Ballet students are automatically accepted into Summer Intensives and assigned to a level based on their ability. All dancers will appear in SummerDance, a professionally produced performance at the Buckman Performing Arts Center on June 14th.
Summer Intensives are open to all student dancers in the Mid-South. Students applying from outside of New Ballet must audition (scheduled by appointment only), video auditions are accepted. The $25 audition fee will be waived if qualifying for need-based scholarship (on a per case basis).

Level 5, 6 & 7 Intensives and CityDance
Students ages 11 – 18 will train with Master Artists from Broadway to major ballet companies in courses including ballet, pointe, partnering, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, choreography, nutrition, resumes, and auditioning. All dancers appear in New Ballet’s exciting SummerDance performance on June 14 at the Buckman Performing and Fine Arts Center.
- Approximate ages of 14 – 18 with a minimum of six years of ballet training and two-plus years on pointe (for those pursuing pointe work).
- The intensive fee is included in the annual tuition for New Ballet students. Scholarships apply.
- Tuition fee for students not currently enrolled with New Ballet: $800.

This rigorous three-week program is designed for experienced student dancers, and taught by renowned professionals. Classes include Pilates, ballet, pointe, pas de deux, variations, modern dance, and contemporary. Career and college information workshops support students’ growth as they plan for the future. The intensive culminates with New Ballet’s exciting Summerdance performance.

During this two-week intensive, participants can expect to make considerable progress by participating in rigorous classes in ballet, jumping, turning, and pointe work for the first part of the day. In the afternoons, this group will combine with CityDance participants. Together, they will shift to bridge-building activities and challenging classes in West African, Hip-hop, and improvisation genres. Both groups will collaborate to create a new work presented at the Summerdance performance. All students will offer creative input into the final product.

- Grades 6, 7 & 8 for New Ballet Pathways’ students in Memphis Shelby County Schools.

For this two-week program, invited MSCS students from New Ballet’s Pathways programs will participate in a rigorous and fun day of dance classes spanning several genres. Mornings will consist of classes in styles such as Modern and fundamentals of classical dance technique. The afternoons will be spent in combined classes with the Level 5 intensive participants. They will include bridge–building sessions, challenging classes in West African and Hip hop genres along with improvisation exercises. Both groups will collaborate to create a new work to be presented at the Summerdance performance. All students will offer creative input into the final product.
Participation in this community-building intensive has become a cherished milestone for New Ballet dancers. It is the work from which Lil Buck sprang and from which student dancers have realized the hard work required of dancers. It’s also a lot of fun!
