Arts school or MLGW substation? MSCS to decide fate of Elvis’ alma mater

The Daily Memphian reports on August 26, 2025 that Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) must decide the future of the historic Humes Middle School building, Elvis Presley’s alma mater and a site on the National Register of Historic Places. Two competing proposals are under consideration: Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) and New Ballet Ensemble & School with a plan to convert the building into a performing-arts school. Read full article here.
