Summer Intensives

Led by world-renowned visiting Master Artists, Dance Summer Intensives provide students with more concentrated training over multiple hours, mentorship and networking opportunities. Special sessions might focus on choreography, self-care practices, and career trajectories while promoting health and well-being. These sessions also broaden students’ horizons as they learn from experienced performers with diverse and extensive professional backgrounds. Current New Ballet students are automatically accepted into Summer Intensives and assigned to a level based on their ability.

Summer Intensives are open to all student dancers in the Mid-South. Students applying from outside of New Ballet must audition (scheduled by appointment only), video auditions are accepted. The $25 audition fee will be waived if qualifying for need-based scholarship (on a per case basis).

For more information please email us at frontdesk@newballet.org or call (901) 726-9225.

For this two-week intensive, participants can expect to make considerable progress by participating in rigorous classes in ballet, jumping, turning, and pointe work or jumps for the first part of the day. In the afternoons, this group will combine with CityDance participants and together they will shift to bridge building activities along with challenging classes in West African, Hip-hop, and improvisation genres. Both groups will collaborate to create a new work that will be presented at the Summerdance performance. All students will offer creative input into the final product.

CityDance

    • Grades 6, 7 & 8 for New Ballet Pathways’ students in Memphis Shelby County Schools.
    • Free / By invitation only.

For this two week program, invited MSCS students from New Ballet’s Pathway’s programs will participate in a rigorous, and fun day of dance classes spanning several genres. Mornings will consist of classes in styles such as Modern and fundamentals of classical dance technique. The afternoons will be spent in combined classes with the Level 5 intensive participants and will include bridge building sessions, challenging classes in West African and Hip hop genres along with improvisation exercises. Both groups will collaborate to create a new work that will be presented at the Summerdance performance. All students will offer creative input into the final product.

The combination of these intensives has become a cherished milestone for New Ballet dancers. It is the work from which Lil Buck sprang and from which student dancers have come to realize the hard work required of dancers. It’s also a lot of fun!
